Alpine Botanical Garden

For those who crave fresh mountain air and the serene beauty of untouched nature, a visit to the Alpine Botanical Garden in the Khulo municipality of mountainous Adjara is an unforgettable experience. Perched near the Goderdzi resort at an impressive altitude of 1,960 meters, this garden offers a peaceful escape far above the city, where the landscapes unfold in a spectacular symphony of alpine splendour.

Spanning roughly 10 hectares, the garden is a living mosaic of local habitats—dense forests, open meadows, tranquil lakes, and misty swamps all coexist here. It is home to an extraordinary collection of plants: 50 families, 111 genera, and 161 species that thrive in the alpine and subalpine zones of Adjara. A specially designed 400-square-meter rock garden showcases the unique flora of Georgia’s mountains and ridges, where carefully arranged stones and plants form breath-taking compositions that feel almost otherworldly.

The Alpine Botanical Garden is more than a feast for the eyes—it is a centre for scientific study, education, and conservation. Many rare and endangered plants find refuge here, allowing visitors to learn about and appreciate the delicate mountain ecosystems. Winding walking paths and resting areas invite leisurely exploration, while designated picnic and camping spots offer opportunities to linger and soak in the crisp air and peaceful surroundings.

Visitors can also discover one of Georgia’s oldest traditions: honey-making. The garden offers a chance to sample and purchase Jara wild honey, crafted in harmony with the surrounding alpine nature.

Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a family seeking a tranquil outing, or someone simply longing to reconnect with the mountains, the Alpine Botanical Garden provides a refreshing journey into the heart of Ajara’s highland beauty.
