Furtio Arched Bridge

Situated a mere 80 kilometers from Batumi, the Furtio Bridge is an impressive and still-functional arched bridge nestled in the village of Furtio, near the beginning of Ajaristskali. Likely dating back to the 9th or 10th centuries, the bridge spans 35 meters in length, with its maximum width on the banks reaching 3.35 meters.

In 2012, the Ajara Cultural Heritage Protection Agency conducted restoration and rehabilitation work on the Furtio Bridge as part of a targeted program. To maintain its original appearance, natural stone and lime were used during the restoration process. Notably, the bridge was built upon rocky soil, which likely contributed to its remarkable preservation throughout the centuries.

Exploring the Furtio Bridge and its surrounding area will undoubtedly enhance your visit to the Shuakhevi municipality, offering a unique glimpse into the region's rich history.
