The Ajara region is renowned for its winter resorts, exceptional mountain cuisine, and alpine skiing opportunities. The highland villages of Ajara offer visitors the chance to experience authentic local gastronomy, discover traditional mountain huts, and enjoy breathtaking panoramic landscapes.

Ajara’s unique geographical location between the Lesser Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea creates ideal conditions for winter tourism. Moist air masses from the sea generate abundant snowfall across the mountain ranges, ensuring excellent snow conditions from November through the end of March.

The highlands of Ajara are particularly attractive to mountain lovers, skiers, and snowboarders. The region’s highest peaks rise to nearly 3,000 meters above sea level. Among the most remarkable destinations is Goderdzi Ski Resort, surrounded by pristine mountain scenery and home to some of the finest ski slopes in Georgia. The ski season at Goderdzi typically lasts until the end of March.

Located approximately 110 kilometers from Batumi, Goderdzi Ski Resort can be reached in about three hours by car. Due to its proximity to the Black Sea, the resort receives abundant snowfall, with snow depths often reaching 2–3 meters. The resort features modern ski infrastructure, including a six-seat bubble chairlift and an eight-seat gondola lift, providing access to spectacular slopes and excellent skiing conditions.

In addition to traditional skiing, visitors can enjoy catskiing using a specialized Snowcat vehicle, which provides access to remote and untouched mountain terrain. Goderdzi was the first ski resort in Georgia to introduce Snowcat-supported skiing, offering a unique freeride experience for adventure seekers.

While winters in Batumi are generally mild, mountainous Ajara offers a completely different atmosphere, characterized by colder temperatures and abundant snowfall. Snow often remains in the highlands until late spring, making the region especially attractive throughout the winter season.

For winter sports enthusiasts, Goderdzi Resort offers much more than excellent snow conditions and fresh mountain air. The resort regularly hosts winter festivals and seasonal events that bring together visitors from across Georgia and beyond.

Restaurants and cafés located around the resort’s central area create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Guests can participate in various sporting activities and traditional winter competitions while enjoying live music performances throughout the day. As evening falls, the entertainment continues with performances by local DJs, creating a vibrant après-ski experience in the heart of mountainous Ajara.
