Khulo-Tago Cable Car

High in the mountains of Upper Ajara, where winding roads cut through deep valleys and the clouds drift low, the Khulo-Tago Cable Car has been carrying people and stories across the gorge since 1985.

Suspended between the town of Khulo and the mountain village of Tago, this legendary cable car soars 280 meters above the ground and stretches 1,720 meters without a single support tower. It’s a masterpiece of Georgian engineering, designed by the renowned architect Shota Orjonikidze, and still ranks as one of the longest and tallest support-free cable cars in the world.

For locals, it’s more than a ride, it’s a lifeline, a daily link between two mountain communities. For travelers, it’s pure wonder: an eight-minute journey through the clouds, where the mountains roll endlessly below, and the wind hums against the cabin. In summer, the slopes glow with emerald green forests; in winter, they turn into a fairytale of snow and silence.

Right now, the cable car is temporarily out of operation, its cabins and cables are being carefully restored to ensure its next chapter is as safe and awe-inspiring as its first. But soon, the Khulo–Tago Cable Car will once again glide across the valley, giving passengers that unforgettable moment when the world seems to hang still beneath their feet.
