Batumi Aquarium – A Journey into the Underwater World

ბათუმის-აკვარიუმი.jpg

Located next to the famous Batumi Dolphinarium, the Batumi Demonstration Aquarium invites visitors of all ages to explore the wonders of the underwater world. Since its opening in 1966, the aquarium has been a key part of the “Scientific Research Center for the Study of the Flora and Fauna of the Black Sea,” housing around 200,000 liters of water in its complex of tanks. Most of the fish are locally bred, offering a unique glimpse into the region’s aquatic life.

The aquarium is home to roughly 100 species, ranging from Black Sea and Georgian freshwater residents like sea cat, sea fox, horsefish, and croaker, to exotic species such as Amazonian piranhas, cichlids, gourami, barbus, botsia, labeo, and the colorful discus. The facility has also successfully bred Japanese carp through selective breeding efforts.

A visit to the Batumi Aquarium is a chance to discover the diversity of marine life up close—a must-see for anyone curious about the wonders beneath the waves.
