Situated in Khelvachauri municipality, Machakhela National Park can be found in the Machakhelistskali valley, 30 km from Batumi, at elevations of 300-350 meters above sea level. Established in 2012, the park spans 8,733 hectares.

Similar to other protected areas in Ajara, Machakhela National Park was created with the vital goal of preserving the unique biological and landscape diversity, as well as ensuring the long-term protection of the Colchic forest ecosystem.

Within Machakhela National Park, visitors can explore the remnants of ancient fortresses, arched bridges, wine presses, and cellars constructed from white limestone. From the summit of Mtavarangeli, one can enjoy breathtaking views of Batumi and the Machakhela valley. The park is home to chestnut, beech, hornbeam, and alder forests, where relict and rare species like Colchic boxwood, chestnut, Colchic nut, Georgian walnut, Pontic Rhododendron, English Yew, and elm can be found.

Three distinct footpaths integrated with the road traverse the park: The Archangel path, Kokoleti, and the Twin Waterfalls paths. Each offers its own unique experience, with picturesque forests, waterfalls, and stunning natural vistas that are sure to leave a lasting impression.

The Machakhela National Park team is always ready to provide clear and helpful answers to any questions you might have.
