"Batumoba" - Batumi City Festival
Batumi, a distinctive coastal city in Georgia, celebrates its annual festival “Batumoba” every year on April 28th.
The city celebration of Batumi, a prominent coastal city of Georgia, “Batumoba”, is celebrated every spring on April 28. Batumi has a history of about 2,500 years, but the choice of this date, April 28, 1888, is associated with the granting of Batumi city status. In 1885, 90 residents of Batumi wrote to the head of the Caucasus Civil Division to grant Batumi city status, and on April 28, 1888, Batumi was granted city status.
Initially, the Batumi city holiday called “Batumkalakoba” was celebrated in May 1982 and was held consecutively for several years. However, for several years now, the date of the city holiday has been linked to the history of its status, April 28, and has been called “Batumoba”. In parallel with the celebration, an international scientific conference, “Batumi – Past and Present”, is being held.
The Batumi city festival “Batumoba” is a true celebration of Georgian hospitality and artistic creativity. As part of the festival, many different and diverse entertainment and educational events are held every year: photo exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts, sports competitions in various genres, etc.
The events are distinguished by their diversity, loaded with cultural activities for people of all ages, both Batumi residents and guests of the city. On this day, honorary Batumi residents are elected, and many famous people and official delegations visit the city. “Batumoba” always ends with a wonderful gala concert, which is a real pleasure for art lovers. The streets of Batumi are decorated with colourful umbrellas. Attending the “Batumoba” festival in spring is a great activity to get to know this city better.
