Chanchkhalo Fortress

Embark on a captivating journey through the picturesque village of Chanchkhalo in mountainous Ajara, easily accessible from the Gomarduli resort. A must-see during your visit is the medieval castle ruins, situated just half a kilometer along a forest trail.

Though the path to the castle is somewhat challenging, the locals affectionately refer to it as Tamar's Fortress, suggesting it may have been constructed during the 12th or 13th centuries. The castle covers an area of about 300 square meters and features a nearby stone-clad building called Namalevi. This structure served as a refuge for people during times of conflict.

Another notable site is the neck of the fortress, which offers a stunning vantage point overlooking the village. Exploring the fortress and visiting these historical monuments will undoubtedly be a highlight of your adventurous trek.
