Kaviani Fortress
Kaviani Fortress
Nestled in Khichauri village of Adjara, Kaviani Castle is another must-see attraction. Situated on the left side of the confluence of the Chvanistskali and Ajaristskali rivers, the remaining castle walls are divided into two distinct sections.
Archaeologists believe the first section once had three stories and served multiple purposes, primarily as a storage area. Evidence of this can be seen in the pits that have survived to this day. The wall of the structure features two ancient windows, and a rectangular hole filled with lime plaster.
The second section of the castle houses a well-preserved rectangular tower, which also likely consisted of three floors. Windows can be found in this part of the tower as well. The western courtyard wall of Kaviani Castle is relatively better preserved, measuring 7.1 meters in length and 5 meters in height. The use of cobblestones and flat stones in the construction is indicative of the techniques commonly employed during that period.
