Nigazeuli Fortress
Situated in Shuakhevi municipality, Nigazeuli village can be found 80 km from Batumi at an altitude of 560-1100 meters above sea level, along the Batumi-Akhaltsikhe highway. Among the numerous tourist attractions in the village vicinity, the captivating Nigazeuli Castle stands out. Perched at an elevation of 800 meters above sea level, the castle is enclosed within a 4000 square meter fortress-wall, offering breathtaking panoramic views amidst lush greenery.
Constructed in the early 18th century by national hero Selim Khimshiashvili, the village also houses a museum and a grave dedicated to Khimshiashvili.
To commemorate the fortress’ creator, the village annually celebrates a public holiday called "Selimoba."
