Laz Ethnographic museum
The Laz Museum, a prominent attraction in Khelvachauri Municipality, serves as the area's cultural center. This historical museum houses archaeological and ethnographic artifacts that showcases the life of the Laz people.
Established in 2012 by Levan Varshalomidze, the chairman of Ajara, the museum is situated on the second floor of the Sarpi administrative building. The Lazuri Museum features exhibits unearthed during archaeological excavations, which were previously housed in the Ajara Archaeological Museum.
A highlight of the Lazuri Museum is the artwork of self-taught Laz artist Hasan Helimish. His captivating landscapes and pieces portraying people's lives can be found here. Additionally, the museum's miniatures offer a fascinating glimpse into the past, showcasing old-style stone and wood houses, traditional Laz costumes, and household items.
