Gonio Beach

Just 15 kilometers from Batumi, on the left bank of the Chorokhi River, stretches the calm and sunlit shore of Gonio. The water here is famously clear, making this deep-sea area a favourite stop for diving lovers who want to explore the Black Sea’s hidden side.

Gonio is one of those places where you can truly unwind — stretch out under the sun, dip into refreshing waves, and enjoy the relaxed seaside rhythm. The Gonio–Kvariati area has grown into a full-fledged resort zone with everything you might need: well-maintained beaches, cafés, bars, shops, and plenty of places to stay. Many hotels and hostels sit right near the shore with open, breezy views, while others cling to the surrounding slopes, offering sweeping panoramas of both the sea and the city.

Right at the entrance to the area stands the ancient Gonio–Apsaros Fortress — beautifully restored and considered one of the oldest surviving structures in Georgia. Its stone walls quietly remind you that this coastline has seen many centuries pass.

Gonio is also known for its healing atmosphere. Nestled between sea and mountains, it enjoys a unique microclimate that’s said to be especially soothing for visitors with cardiovascular or nervous system issues. The air feels lighter here — a little fresher, a little kinder.

And then there’s the crystal-clear coast, waiting to wrap your summer in new adventures.
