Shuamta Lakes are located in the highlands of Ajara, in the village of Shuamta, Khulo Municipality. The lakes lie at an altitude of approximately 2,150 metres above sea level. There are five lakes in this area, three of which are noticeably larger than the others. The lakes are surrounded by alpine meadows, mountain slopes, and traditional Ajarian wooden houses, creating a landscape characteristic of the highlands of Ajara.

From Shuamta, panoramic views extend towards Khikhani Fortress and the surrounding mountain landscapes. The hiking routes leading to the lakes are well suited for trekking, photography, and exploring the area's natural scenery. The best time to visit is from June to September, when the alpine meadows are in bloom, and the mountain landscape displays its greatest natural diversity.

The area surrounding the lakes is also known for its traditional summer mountain pastures (yaylas), where the seasonal pastoral lifestyle and shepherding traditions of highland Ajara are still preserved.

Shuamta Lakes are frequently included in tourist routes leading to Khikhani Fortress and Goderdzi Pass, allowing visitors to explore several of the region's most significant natural and historical sites within a single journey.
